In the next slides, I introduce an experimental interface which has
been developed. On purpose, the whole focus is on the interface, and
not on building the indexes to be searched. The only restriction I
made is that the data must be collectable in linear (or close to linear)
time.
What are possible extentions to our search? In the first place, a search-engine could help us by suggesting extra keywords to our question. This may provide good third or fourth words to our query. This also might help the search engine to differentiate between different meanings of the same word. A few of the current engines have this implemented already. Better attention should be made to language dependency, because more and more web-pages are written in other languages than English. As one of the most important parts of a more flexible interface is the feedback on your actions. What do the words contribute to the result? Mark A.C.J. Overmeer, AT Computing bv, 1999. |
